SGP Robotics Welcome! The South Grand Prairie High School Robotics team was founded by Phil Harris, a physics teacher at South Grand Prairie, in December of 2000. Over the past twelve years, this team has been able to completely embody the meaning of FIRST
(For Inspiration and Recognition on Science and Technology). FIRST was
founded by Dean Kamen in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and
participation in science and technology. (as posted on the FIRST
WEBSITE). Dean’s mission is "To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders."
Over the past twelve years South Grand Prairie High School’s Robotics team has been able to completely embody the meaning of FIRST.
Team 704 exhibits Gracious Professionalism in everything we do. We make
sure we have fun while learning about the engineering process, science,
and technology, and are outspoken about their importance to modern
society. We take pride in our appearance; we put a lot of effort into
designing and building and it shines through in our beautiful and robust
robots. We also have dedicated students that are strongly interested in
science and technology. Most of our alumni team members are actively
pursuing degrees in science, engineering and technology and return year
after year to mentor our team. We have continuously promoted FIRST
and science and technology to students and adults alike in our
community. We network with professional companies, getting them involved
with FIRST just as we are, and providing our students skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.
Through FIRST, the team has received many recognitions and awards, such as two Regional Championships, two regional Finalist, one Entrepreneurship Award, two Industrial Design Awards, one Quality Award and one FIRST Deans List Finalist Award.
Diligently working year-round, Team 704 builds a robust team, instilling in our students knowledge and experiences they carry with them as they embark on their future education. Our mission is to promote the appreciation of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through hard work and dedication to achieve greatness in these fields. Our students learn engineering and real-world teamwork in an extracurricular setting, while having fun building successful relationships within education to ensure life-long discovery.
