What is FIRST?

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an great organization that aspires to inspire students all over the world. Founded by Dean Kamen, FIRST has teams from nearly every state in the United States, as well as from Australia,  Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Germany, Israel, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Dean Kamen is an inventor, entrepreneur, and tireless advocate for science and technology. His passion and determination to help young people discover the excitement and rewards of science and technology are the cornerstones of FIRST .

The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) pairs high-school students with adult mentors (primarily engineers and teachers) to design and build robots that compete against one another in this high energy “varsity Sport for the Mind”.  Each year at the Kickoff in January, a new, challenging game is introduced. These exciting competitions combine the practical application of science and technology with the fun, intense energy and excitement of a championship-sporting event. Teams are encouraged to display Gracious Professionalism and to cooperate while competing – known as “Coopertition".

Here is what we are all about...

Over the past twelve years South Grand Prairie High School’s Robotics team has been able to completely embody the meaning of FIRST. Team 704 exhibits Gracious Professionalism in everything we do. We make sure we have fun while learning about the engineering process, science, and technology, and are outspoken about their importance to modern society. We take pride in our appearance; we put a lot of effort into designing and building and it shines through in our beautiful and robust robots. We also have dedicated students that are strongly interested in science and technology. Most of our alumni team members are actively pursuing degrees in science, engineering and technology and return year after year to mentor our team. We have continuously promoted FIRST and science and technology to students and adults alike in our community. We network with professional companies, getting them involved with FIRST just as we are, and providing our students skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.

Through FIRST, the team has received many recognitions and awards, such as two Regional Championships, two regional Finalist, one Entrepreneurship Award, two Industrial Design Awards, one Quality Award and one FIRST Deans List Finalist Award.

Diligently working year-round, Team 704 builds a robust team, instilling in our students knowledge and experiences they carry with them as they embark on their future education. Our mission is to promote the appreciation of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through hard work and dedication to achieve greatness in these fields.  Our students learn engineering and real-world teamwork in an extracurricular setting, while having fun building successful relationships within education to ensure life-long discovery.

Competition Schedule:
This year's game is Robot Rumble! The Warriors will be competing at the FIRST Alamo Regional at the San Antonio Convention Center from March 1-3, 2012 and the Dallas Regional at the Dallas Convention Center from March 29-31, 2012!
